  History
MSCM De Pijl was founded on October 10 1974 in Mechelen

Thanks to the cooperation of the Belgian Railways (NMBS/SNCB) the club could move into the building at the Leuvensesteenweg were it has been since then. At those days that was still a shunting station, nowadays it is a container terminal. In 1977 the construction of the large static club lay out was started. A few years later the first exposition was organised with a fully operational club lay out. With a track length of over 500 meters this lay out remains one of the strong points of the club. Meanwhile a number new initiatives were developed and facilities were enlarged with the attic.

In 1988 the construction started of the modular lay out. The inspiration came from the NMBS line 42 connecting Luik (Liege) with Gouvy (and further on to Luxemburg). The choise was made to use digital technology to steer the trains on this lay out.

In 1991 the club was approached by the Flemish Region to participate on the world exposition in Sevilla. For 6 months the lay out  with scale Z trains was an eye catcher in the Belgian pavilion. Nowadays you can find this lay out in the Toy Museum in Mechelen.

Our modular lay out was shown during the expositions of MOMA  at The Heizel in Brussels and on our on main event exposition in Leest in 1999

The club offers you a brought range of possibilities. A large static layout in continuous current, but since shortly fully transformed in a digitally controlled lay out. A modular lay out also steered via digital technology, a scale O lay out inspired on British branch-lines, a modular lay out based upon the Märklin system under construction with digital and classic steering, and finally a scale I lay out still in the beginning of construction. The static club lay out is a club initiative, the others are private or mixed private/club initiatives.

During the weekly gatherings the members also have at their disposal a library and video/DVD collection with over 700 titles, all this can be consulted in a friendly atmosphere accompanied by a good beer or other beverage.

There are 2 gatherings per week during which the members work on one or more lay outs.
